Its always hard for me at the end of the year. I love year end top tens but I dont listen to music the way most ppl do. I'm not actively into one particular style but I activley seek out new stuff. So I've decided to make a top ten based on what Ive been listening to this year instead of limiting it to what came out this year.

10. Ash Ra Temple - Live at the Ortf pop club March 1975

Pretty amazing, also says something about the attention spans ppl used to have in the 70's Got it off of a blog somewhere you can find it if you look.

9. Atlas Sound Bedroom demos vol 1-4 (2010)

I love hearing what other ppl do in their bedrooms. You can get these anywhere.

8. Black Francis - The Golem (2010)

Frank Black did a soundtrack this year to a play about a monster in jewish folklore....yes its awesome.

Honestly if you erased Frank Black s voice and told me it was a new soundtrack by Neil Young, I wouldnt have a hard time believing that and the amazing "Bad News" is probably the closest we'll ever get to a song that is the rightful heir to the Pixies legacy.

Seriously get this.

7. Magnetic Feilds -Holiday (1994)

Bizzare and joyful, I love the way this record sounds. Not sure how I came upon this, this year. Guess it was easier than trying to figure out if there are any good songs on the 3rd record of 69 love songs.

6. His Hero is Gone -Monuments to Theives(1997)

Powerful , Cinematic and griping I've been playing this alot again lately. Its the Hardcore version of watching Braveheart

I just got this but its so amazing it broke into the top five

So you may or probably havent noticed I havent posted much recently. It started as a run up to the release of the digital record I wanted to leave some room for anticipation instead of continually posting a bunch of songs that wouldnt be on the record. Well Since then I ve thought these songs are ok but now all of a sudden I have more time and a chance to make them better. I already have another album s worth of songs to release but its only been 3weeks! so while I work on them and make them better I will be using this blog to post things of musical interest enjoy

Listening Fridays

In an attempt to keep up with the blog even when im not completely finshed with songs or/ videos I've decided to write a little about what I'm listening to during the week.

This week Broken Social Scene s forgiveness rock record which is fucking awesome. Reminds me alot of fleetwood mac s tusk in the best way possible. Also Listening to the new LCD Soundsystem which is starting to grow on me, its not perfect but neither are any of his other records, that being said I like it just as much as the last one it even has one song I hate ( drunk girls) just like the last album did ( new york I love you...) Also listening to Neko case's Blacklisted as I am thinking about writing a song in that vein for a friend. hmm, what else? Dan deacon 's spiderman of the rings also awesome. Ariel pink s before today, actually listenable this time so I think he will get at least a little more attention this summer. Honorable mentions Cheap trick's Heaven tonight, and john cale's vintage violence.

So Ive been listening to Dan Deacon and the new Caribou record and it got me thinking about my own uncool electronic music leanings and about how maybe I should expore them a little more. So this is a rough mix, a little muddy, of something I worked on in that vein I didnt make a video for this one since it was just an exercise.

So I want this blog not only to be a place to showcase musical ideas but also to reveal a thought process. I feel like I'm in such a weird place musically right now and that music in general in in such a weird place that by revealing my thoughts, maybe some answers will emerge on direction, motivation and so on. Today I'm listening to the new LCD Soundsystem, this is happening, and the new Broken Social Scene, Swim. I think i need some time on the LCD but the Broken Social Scene is already amazing to me. I got them both from the pop Apocalypse blog which is also awesome. I sometimes go on there to find new music for work. Been thinking a lot about Phillip glass and Brian Eno lately and also Danny Elfman. Working on a couple of new pieces not sure how I feel about them yet but I will probably be posting a new one soon.
